Women, Art and the Fight Against Fast Fashion
Curated by Bilquees "Billie" Hafeez
“Curated and commissioned by Bilquees "Billie" Hafeez, this exhibition showcases the work of emerging artist Mo Haloftis. Hafeez worked closely with Haloftis to create this exhibition as a means to explore the environmental impact of fast fashion and the larger economic systems that drive it. Through a range of media, Halotis offers a unique perspective on the ways in which our choices as consumers impact the health of the planet and the people who make our clothes. From traditional art like oil painting to sustainably made image transfers, "Green Glamour" presents a thought-provoking and visually stunning exploration of sustainability, fashion, and women's voices in the contemporary world.
The artwork presented in "Green Glamour" explores the relationship between fast fashion, and the impact of consumer culture on the environment through the point of view of women. Through this exhibition, visitors are asked to think about and explore the connections between fashion, consumerism, and the environment, so together we can discover how we can all make a difference in creating a more sustainable world.
This title plays off the idea of fast fashion as a thread that connects the environmental and social impacts of consumer culture, while also highlighting the role of women in both driving and responding to these issues. "Green Glamour" prompts us to focus on the economic and environmental dimensions of the fashion industry, as well as the potential for artistic expression to spark change.
The exhibition aims to highlight the potential for creativity and innovation to transform the fashion industry and promote sustainability. The phrase "sustainable future" is brought up more and more as humans learn more about their detrimental impact on the environment. Yet how the phrase underscores the urgency of the issue and the need for action requires more forethought. Overall, this exhibition is designed to be both thought-provoking and empowering, with a focus on the power of art to drive social and environmental change.”
